2020 State Cup

Somehow mentions of San Diego and Fullerton got the blood going on this board. We are about 6.3% of the way to the 2010 board where people are boldly predicting which player will score the first goal and debating who is the best right back in the age group. What a beautiful world.

Who knew that Fullerton would take center stage of anything? That's like saying Cuba and North Korea would carry the torch for socialist communism into the 21st century. That would never happen! Wait a minute...

You guys should all belong to a country club, carry a 7 handicap, and look at 400 yards of grass hoping to hole out in three shots. All in the name of a club championship.

Instead, you willingly decided to belong to a soccer club, carry lawn chairs, and stare at 80 yards of grass hoping to get three goals. All in the name of a division 2 scholarship.

All of you are heroes. All deserving a win. Enjoy your games and let's all report fun facts from the weekend on Monday.
Best take in a long time @lovelygoal. I was just thinking about the golf club membership I cancelled in Temecula 7 years ago because I couldn;t afford both club soccer and golf club memberships. Plus, watching my goat play on the weeknds was funner than playing golf with my boring buddies who cheated when we played skins. My handicap is no more. However, I think my dd will get a D1 deal but I'm so desperate now I will take D2, D3 or NAIA for that matter. After my dd retires, I'm moving to Indio, CA so I can get my golf club membership back. Most dads I know can do both and I'm happy for them :)

We have been playing against the Eagles the past 4 years and they have always played good soccer. I don't know where the kick ball statement is coming from. They have a very good team and it is always a battle when we play them. The parents have been great too....
When losers lose a game in soccer, they usually go to the "At least we played the game right. Ya, you won but you play kickball." So disrespectful IMHO. Or, "all your coach does is recruit." How about, "congrats on a job well done."

For this round I see going through:
Rebels
Liverpool
Legends
SD Force
Cruz
Pa
Fortes
LAGSB
Mr. Venantsyo, BYSC, Blues, Beach, OC Surf, Blues Vaught, LAGSD, and Albion are on line 1. They would like to have a word with you.

I asked what the meeting was about and they said something like "When all you did was look at a web page and picked the teams with higher ratings between the two, we can do that on our own. Thank you." Should I put them through?

Also your own coach is on line 2. He would like to meet for a coffee today. Should I take your 3 PM slot?

CRL automatic bids on the line for Saturday games (quarterfinalists automatically qualify). CRL play-in is not going to be a shoe-in with the likes of Blues/Legends, SD Surf, Eagles having to win a spot.

That’s the most critical aspect of those games. CRL play in is also not cheap as far as I know, so the outcome of the round of 16 has also a financial meaning for the teams.
How many spots are open overall for CRL?

Well, rankings are there for a reason, and IF (capital IF) they have any validity they should indicate what team is more likely to succeed. Likely does not mean surely however, since in sport everything can happen.
Also your Slammers appears to have shown a keen interest in keeping the rankings up for several teams, so who am I to go against Slammers?!

Rankings is what makes the U9-U13 ages so fun and why the dads get hooked early on. I don;t care about rankings anymore but I really did back in the day. We had @Technician72 who went deep with each team and gave many reasons why he predicted the winners for each group. He knew his stuff. Today, I'm not sure he could pull it off but I know he would try :)

I used to dismiss it entirely until about 6 months ago. Then my daughter's team's ranking started climbing for some unknown reason and it became so much more likable.

It does provide a lot of entertainment. Without the rankings, the college football's entertainment value would be almost nonexistent. I think the same thing applies for U11 girls soccer.

7 of 9 top 10 teams are in the R16. 7 of 10 top 20 teams are in the R16. We skip the top 30's entirely. There are two Top 35 teams in the R16. I think it shows that the rankings are working pretty well but it is also not a perfect predictor. Therefore, I personally don't think the rankings should be the only thing used to predict the outcome (and I know Venantsyo did it to avoid all controversy and that is why I gave him a sarcastic response). I know all of you have your own prediction methods that is more sophisticated and if anyone is brave enough to share...

Here is the best news. Unlike college football, all teams get to participate in a tournament, and all results are determined on the field (+/- 10% on what ref had for breakfast).

Welcome to the greatest form of entertainment for us old guys who have girls who can ball. I think @Dominic should create a ticker on the bottom to give us updated scores and breaking news when it comes in like our friend did when the Gun Guy was running around Temecula.

BTW, this is my only source of sports entertainment. NFL is touch football now, college football and hoops has the same teams just about every year in final four (UCLA is killing me), NBA is a 3 point league and no one plays defense and baseball has a bunch of cheaters. I see where one former MBL pitcher is suing the Atsros and MLB for being released after getting shelled in one inning to the Astros. He now has severe mental anguish because all he hears is trash cans banging at night in his head like my dd keeps hearing a certain coach yelling at her all the time. Talk about playing the victim card :)

Thanks for info. So how many playin spots are available? And how many automatic bids?
Eight quarterfinalists get automatic bid. Not every team elects to play CRL...08 Blues Baker opted to not play CRL this year. Not sure why they did that since CRL gives you quality games. So minimum eight play in spots available (last year was nine). The play in tournament is in April with sixteen teams.

ah, so they could have used the teams in the round of 16: the play in is just to collect fees?
Better if only quarterfinalists get automatic bid since that allows teams that got tough bracket draws to still have a chance to get in. If they didn't teams like Eagles would be on the sidelines for CRL next season.

Does anyone know where state cup is held this coming weekend? Will it be in oceanside or gallway? Does anyone know why they switch fields every weekend?

The 09 Eagles team has never played kickball. They are a good group of girls who play a good game of soccer. They had a tough weekend. It happens.
it makes you sound small and bitter to talk about any team like that. Especially a team that won two years back to back. People are waiting for them to lose.
my guess is your team has lost to them.
Yes. My DD loses to the Eagles 2x a year and sometimes more. I respect the players and family's of the eagle's but don't like their coach. He's usually on the phone during the game and between phone calls will yell kick it harder. After the game he waits in the parking lot trying to poach our top players which is tacky. There's no game plan for him other then kick ball so don't try to kid yourself. As other teams grow on the field bad coaching becomes more apparent and good athletes can only take a team so far. At some point you need to develop a team to play as a unit. I'm sure this will happen now because of the coaching change so I really do wish that team the best moving forward.

Who do you think the Coach is talking to on his phone?
