DA QUICK QUESTION

DA starts Aug 1st
The season will likely begin in September and commence with Championships in July. Clubs will break from league play for periods of rest (including inactivity due to weather), during a winter break (December/January) and/or following the end of the regular season (July).

You are correct Striker 17. I was just questioning an ECNL player going to tryouts period with strict guidelines and rules in place, I was just wondering if everyone interprets the competition rules the same way for ECNL. Absolutely, I know that there are plenty of Non-ECNL clubs that are very competitive. So .... with that being said... Do you think we will see a lot of rostered ECNL players there on Sunday?
I think the bigger question is, how many dd's will forego playing high school soccer and odp to play DA?

Regular League runs Sept through Mid Dec, short break until Jan, Futsal period Jan-Feb, League starts back in Feb-June, General idea is to play 34 games.

There are showcases in the later fall (nov-dec) when you play teams form other areas, Futsal Showcase after that, Playoffs or other showcases in June until July.

I have players in both ENCL and DA, ENCL tryout period is May. Existing DA players have to get permission to attend another teams tryout or training and you have to do that during specific dates only.

IF you player is trying out or training with/for another club, follow the protocol otherwise, likely will get back to your home club, I suggest you don't sneak around, seen players dismissed/cut every year for doing so.

ENCL is a good option if you want to play HS which my DD does so she won't be going for girls DA. The only downside is the amount of travel for ENCL and the cost, DA will be more local IMO,

I didn't see DA in any of the flyers. They are simply Age Group tryouts.

A lot of clubs are sticking the DA member logo on their tryout flyers, good marketing for them but open tyouts for da teams don't happen at many clubs.

Pats is Pay to Play for the boys DA, they do run good programs but I wonder if they will do the same for the Girls?

I don't really think any club of merit would expect to pick DA players by try-out?

Yes picking them politically is much better and more in line with current practices.
Why have a technical tryout with a US SCOUT when you can rely on what Jim Joe says.
Many problems with this:
1. A technical player is more wanted in this environment not an "athlete" per se
2. Focus is individual not team
3. Specific curriculum is used
4. Specific benchmarks are used

I have seen ALOT in the boys side players who "didn't make the A team from u8-u12" make a DA TEAM.

And while I am on it...

So what do you expect non ECNL clubs who have been traditionally treated like bastardized stepchildren to do?
KUDOS to the Pats for putting the word out there, allowing current flight one team players who have long played at the "Bigs" to be viewed by their staff (who doesn't know them because frankly when have many of us even played a Pats team)
Sorry but I commend them for making a process more open, and putting some thought into it which is more than I can say for the rest of the hush hush back door conversations and trainings being held in socal.

So is it fair to say, you don't agree with the thought that DA player's should be selected by scouting and analysis of players and games over the next 9 months before DA starts? Did I misread the notification stating they have US Scouts on staff? Can't think of anyone more prepared to select players really?

Again where to start?
1. There are players that are special that have not been able to participate due to funds who may not be on the radar who could benefit
2. There are players who a club may consider a B team player who truly fits qualities of a DA player
3. Jenny Hammond is a USWNT SCOUT
She will be there Sunday.
4. Your post makes no sense to me. In order to have a nine month analysis of DA PLAYERS BEFORE a DA they would have to have a list of who wanted to be on the DA. They would have to know who wanted it- because not every star ECNL player wants it.
If you can compose a system by which that process occurs yes that is a utopian solution. It will not happen in a year one. It will also not happen in a year two because the very definition of a DA is relegation - open tryouts and relegation to avoid the very problem the current system has i.e. Price and even some say lack of relegation

Finally and here is the funniest no I am not going. My DD will not do any of this but again I was very impressed with this club and commend what they are attempting to do

1. That's a very good point.
2. Good point too.
3. JH should already know who's worth looking at.
4. I would think that DA clubs should already have a list or at least be working hard on creating that list. It can't be that difficult to identify which teams will most likely have talented players and it's fairly easy to select which tournaments to visit to see most of those teams. Maybe some players wouldn't consider DA unless asked? The try-out process won't highlight that, nor does it provide a realistic environment to effectively assess players who want to play at that level.

Appreciate your input.

Consider me an optimist.
I hope they do look at the ODP list to find those CZ and Freedom girls for example.
I hope those talented girls who have done their time and been consistent performers on their A teams get the team they want.
I believe lists are being made but I am also hopeful that the girls who have been able to afford to play come out. LA is a hotbed.
I am also hopeful that with actual technical benchmarks you see changes.
Again optimism.
Finally again and I say this to be helpful why wouldn't you go to this? If you wanted DA and didn't have the ECNL Leash why wouldn't you go to see how an actual DA TRYOUT is run? Consider it a three hour private ..

All of this is hypothetical.

1) no club knows what the girls DA will be as US Soccer hasn't told the clubs
2) big meeting in Chicago, will know what parameters for girls DA will be after that meeting
3) per parent of Surf DD who is no longer there, Surf gave 6-7 ECNL cards to 04s to tie them up until May so they can't look at other DA clubs and will be forced to play 04 ECNL. Not cool.
