Foul Called

I watched this multiple times to see the foul and would like opinions

Impeding? Red isn't trying to play the ball (it goes to the GK) but is shielding preventing the blue attacker from making a play for the ball?

Looks like impeding/holding to me. Red makes no attempt to play the ball or even get close to it.

What was it called?

I agree with baldref. The Red defender is not within playing distance of the ball and therefore could be called for impeding. But that ball is going to keeper even without the contact by Red (Blue not's getting there no matter what). For me, that's a play on ... while the players are retreating for the punt, I'd tell Red that was close and to be mindful of playing distance.

What was blue doing with the first red player? That was weird, and likely what caught the attention of the ref that way instead of only on an impeding against red.

Odd thing was, the ref on the opposite end (beginning of clip) was the one that called the foul. Perhaps he saw something that was hidden by the red player from the camera

Seems like a very ticky tacky foul since it's clear the keeper was going to get the ball regardless. If the red defender is going to impede he needs to be less obvious about it. Nice pitch BTW.

I expect high schools are tough to maintain. Year round sports with multiple teams a day tearing them up.
Last year was far worse
Only semi-related story...my bro-in-law was a varsity high school softball coach. The school did a terrible job of maintaining the fields. So he took it upon himself to mow and maintain the field himself. Only happened once. The school was very unhappy about his actions and blocked him from mowing the fields ever again because a volunteer can't provide services that are done by a union employee.

Was this a high school game? I believe most schools now in San Diego have turf fields now (I can't think of one that doesn't but I'm sure there is some).

yes high school but not San Diego.

all the schools around have turf fields but they are reserved for varsity. They play frown, JV and varsity at the same time at most
some schools do have the games consecutively but it’s the exception
