For teams in the central valley or non MVLA clubs, this does make sense. If a player is leaving MVLA, it is not because of college connections.

MVLA has one of the best college connections in the country. They send a lot of players to top academic D1 schools throughout the country, including top colleges in southern California.

I agree. There are multiple reasons why a player would decide to play in Socal, but I do not believe leaving MVLA for college connections is the primary reason. MVLA has a long history of sending girls to national D1 programs, top D3 academic schools, and everything in between. I am not claiming MVLA is better than the top SoCal clubs that have a proven track record of having players on youth national teams and top college programs.. just similar.

Stanford has EIGHT girls from MVLA with two HS seniors committed. Roughly 25% of the Stanford roster is MVLA alumni. The head coach at UCLA was a long-time MVLA coach, and I would not be surprised if the MVLA pipeline increased over the years with two HS school seniors committed.

Every parent that posts on here has a kid that's going to play on the USWNT + needs to be on the D1 track + only a Power 5 D1 team will do. For youth soccer (if you can really call it soccer) they can only play for the top 5 teams in the nation which has been defined by some crazy parent app that applies predictive analytics that normally is used by sportsbooks.

Sarcasm aside most parents are with you 100% unfortunately the crazy ones are very vocal online.

Also, the crazy ones don't bother me. High level soccer for women is the most challenging team sport girls can play.

The ones that bother me feel the need to go online + disparage teams, clubs, leagues, coaches, and even players that they feel aren't good enough to share a field with their kid. Almost every parent I've met in real life that acts this way their kid is mediocre at best. Most of the parents I've met with a kid I thought was very good were nice, and reasonable to be around.

I see the same things, the majority of the families are nice normal people with talented kids. But the small percentage that are over the top crazy are very concerning and very fascinating to watch at the same time. It’s sort of like a social experiment for me; possibly a longitudinal study can be done to see where these kids actually end up. LOL combining crazy parents with social media is a disaster waiting to happen for some of these kids

If in fact the MVLA striker moves to a SoCal team, it will be interesting seeing her against some of the other top 2010 strikers.

Some refer to MVLA’s #15 as the goat of MVLA, because of all of the amazing work she’s put in against the teams in NorCal
 
Interesting to note all the clubs not going to surf cup this year at the 2010 level when they had regularly attended before. I wonder if it’s largely viewed as a welcomed preseason tune up event, a burdensome commitment for tired teams especially those coming off ECNL playoffs, or a chance for coaches to experiment with formations and personnel. Definitely doesn’t seem to have the juice it has in years prior…..

I think San Diego + Surf Cup has just become too expensive.

Also the top club ECNL vs ECNL and ECNL vs GA rivalries have become to great + the stakes are too high. What clubs gain from winning is less than what they lose from losing.

Cost is a major factor. Playoffs was a six day hotel stay for most teams. Richmond was another six. More if you arrived early to acclimate. it’s difficult to justify a thousand dollar hotel stay when you haven’t even paid off the credit card from the previous two trips.

I’d bet a bunch of teams just decided that their big trip this summer was playoffs. You’ll see them again at the showcases.
