Any upsets in the CIF playoffs this year, or did santa margarita, mater dei, and Jserra win again :)

Finals for Division 1 boys is next weekend. Mater Dei is in the finals. Link: https://www.cifstate.org/sports/soccer/SoCal_brkts_2024/boysd1
Division 1 girls is still at the quarter-finals; Santa Margarita is still in the hunt. Link: https://www.cifstate.org/sports/soccer/SoCal_brkts_2024/gd1
The regionals are always an anticlimax after the excitement of Southern Section playoffs. Many of the boys return to their clubs this week. Others nurse injuries after playing 25 games in 3 months.

Mater Dei won the boys final over Arlington which was sort of an upset since Arlington was ranked 1 I believe 2 in the state and unbeaten going in with hardly a single close score on their record. Mater Dei was also dominant all season won trinity league.

Got it - does this mean the match this weekend (3/2) between Mater Dei and Arlington is a rematch (with somewhat different squads)?

If they both win on Thursday, yes. Same with Servite and OLu who played in the SS D1 final on Saturday and now in D2 regionals.

Agree.

I went to the Santiago vs Santa Margarita game. Thought Santa Margarita was slightly better, but Santiago prevailed 2-0. The breaks went their way. For the winners, this was the game. Photos with the plaque, celebrating, crying. Santiago is the CIF open division winners. Might be tough to bring everyone back for this week and get excited for the games. Playing Tuesday/Thursday is crazy.

So SM lost that one but then beat them in the next final. Which one means more?

The players and coaches appear to think Southern sections means more. They prove this each year by players going back to club and skipping regionals. If they cared, they would stay another week.
It really would be better to either break Southern Section up or just combine all of SoCal into one playoff structure. Southern Section is just so much bigger than the other sections.
