Just checking in on the peeps in TX...I hear things are still moving forward and ECNL is still on track to start last weekend in August. Any news to report in the Lone Star State?
Still on track to play.
Related note, last weekend is one of the bigger dates on the Dallas soccer calendar - Classic League qualifying. Lake Highlands Classic League is generally considered to be the top local league for teams that aren't in ECNL or ECRL. Dozens and dozens of of teams were fighting for spots in the league in the final qualification tournament this past weekend.
The league made a rule that only one parent per player was allowed to attend the games, they had to wear a mask, social distance, and weren't allowed out of the car until 10 minutes before kickoff. The bitching from anti-maskers and 1st amendment shouters was epic on social media (we are Texas, after all).
But cooler heads prevailed as everyone realized it isn't about the parent's "rights" to watch the games or fighting "the Man" and his silly rules (well, silly for some people) but it is about the kids and a sport they love to play. Sacrificing some things (many parents alternated halves in the field and in the car because there were monitors counting players and counting parents) is a small price to pay to ensure the kids get to compete. Games went on as scheduled and there were not any major incidents or backlash.
As long as player to player transmission remains extremely low, as long as people continue to abide by the rules that will ensure spectator to spectator transmission is low, and as long as families and coaches are responsible, open, and conservative about possible exposure in the home environment, I think club games are going to go on as scheduled here this fall.
