Scrutiny of Youth Soccer

Here is an article about teams traveling out of state to play soccer.

Lots of teams traveling this weekend during a spike in COVID cases
The article sites that some of the spread in AZ is due to youth tournaments but they offer no actual data on this.
I would expect strict enforcement of Covid rules this weekend.
Will be interesting to see if this draws more scrutiny and negative attention to traveling out of state for soccer. Conversely, would be good to see that outdoor youth sports don’t actually contribute to the spread of COVID. Travel safe, wear masks, wash your hands and don’t gather indoors.

Also,
California: please let kids play soccer games, outdoors, parents with masks, within neighboring counties and then people won’t feel the need to travel out of state to play. For the time being.

Rumor is that the new state guidelines are exactly that. But you need to be in orange. Maybe March?

Fact is those guidelines could have easily been out since September. But nope. Let's almost release them during the winter when Gavin knows no one will be in orange. Ironic? Maybe...maybe not.

Clearly some political people in AZ went to CNN and other big papers to get that information about the desert cup all over the news so public pressure eventually closes tournaments in AZ very soon. It will likely work.

If we learned from the fall, we need to capitalize on the months when rates are down. Kids could have returned to school and outdoor sports in Sept and Oct. Everyone knew numbers would get worse in the winter. Hopefully in the Spring, rates will improve and things can get implemented quickly.

I am not sure that will. Next big tournament is Dec 11 with the RSL Holiday Classic. AIA (state high school athletic authority) is allowing High School teams to begin practices for Winter Sports on Dec 7th. Also we have the big Waste Management Golf tournament coming up Feb 1. That brings in millions to the Scottsdale economy. They have to be careful if they ban youth soccer that means no Golf either. I think the Scottsdale mayor gets impeached if he does that.
