NexGen Man City cup in SD: http://mancitycup.com

The White and Blue groups seem like a mixed bag and not sure why some teams are in one group of the other? For example REBELS 2003 ELITE and LAGUNA UNITED FC are in the Blue group but LA GALAXY SAN DIEGO B03, SDSC B2003 ACADEMY NAVY , BOCA OC B03 WHITE are in the White group?

Cerritos Memorial Challenge Cup: https://tgs.totalglobalsports.com/public/master.aspx?eid=1025

This one doesn't seem to have the appeal of the top fight teams like it had in past years and
Slammers FC ECNL B03 appears to be the overwhelming favor. Boca Jrs LA B03 White is not the Premier team which won CSL, finalist at CRL, etc.

Yes, mystifying why Marietta Surf and PATEADORES B03 RESERVE ACADEMY are in Blue bracket over any of the three listed white teams

The NPL teams are loaded with DA players that do not play much if at all with their team name during league they will be very strong.

Man City Blue - Crossfire Premier over Force Academy (Laguna made semis)
Man City White - Boca OC White over TFA (Oceanside Breakers and SGV Surf in Semis)
Cerritos Memorial - Santa Monica United over Slammers Torres/Vargas (Slammers ECNL and LA Breakers in Semis)

Caught parts of a handful of the 2003 games at Cerritos. Not as many top teams as in years past, but SMU Blue impressive/dominant. Gave up one goal entire tournament.

Interesting results two out of the area teams faced off in the Man City blue final. Both those teams had many DA players so that helped possibly? with the combined age groups U16/17 those player maybe just coming together for tournaments sort of like all-star teams.

Cerritos yeah for sure a drop off in teams, when a middle of the pack npl or CSL gold team wins it makes you wonder what happen? What going on with Slammers? Their top ECNL team defeated by a 10th place Discovery team? Didn't see that one coming? Coaching & player changes going on or something?

We decided to guest play back east since we were visiting family anyway, was impressed seeing so many colleges coaches at the Potomac Cup. Something like 80 of them was told, if you're looking at east coast colleges this one is worth attended.

TFA beat Boca in the final of the White group at MC and there club did very well in the tournament.

LAFC was in serious negotiations with TFA to get a affliated deal done but at the last minute it was called off in March, that would have been something.

.

SMU Blue not exactly a middle of pack CSL gold, but agree it was curious Slammers ECNL didn’t at least make the final.

My bad.

TFA over Boca OC White 4-0 in MC White final.

Ussda playoffs
http://www.ussoccerda.com/boys_playoff_draw

4 Socal teams in this one, Galaxy 7th ranked might have the best draw. Surf in a tough group #A.

The group stage of the 2019 Boys' Academy Playoffs signifies the commencement of the Academy postseason, featuring the top 32 teams from the U-16/17 and U-18/19 divisions and top eight teams of the U-15 division based on the final standings of points-per-game average from regular season play. The Quarterfinals follow from June 24-25, when the eight group winners will stay in Oceanside and contend for one of four spots in the Academy Semifinals, set to kickoff at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California on Monday, July 8 with the championship games to be played on July 10. The Academy national champions for the U-15 boys will be crowned at the Summer Showcase in Oceanside.

Congrats to the Slammers HB on earning a trip to the ENPL Finals in Colorado. Three of the eights teams going the ENPL finals are representing the Boys ECNL Southwest conference; Slammers, Phoenix Rising and RSL-AZ.

If people are wondering about the differences, speed, level of play, etc here you go:

ECNL playoffs: RSL-AZ 0 Slammers 0 ( neither moved on)

USSDA U16/17 semi final: LA Galaxy 2 Solar SC 3 (Solar was the evenutal Champion)

To be fair the DA game was U16 ans U17s and it was played on a primo field. The ECNL game was played on shoe lace high grass.

That being said, there is no ECNL v. DA thing on the boys side. DA rules the boys side by a very wide margin.

ECNL has collected a few top teams in the SW region but the competition is not at the level of CSL Premier or SCDSL Discovery.

I heard the B03 Slammers ECNL team was very unlucky in Denver as they tied for first in their bracket with Napa but Napa advanced due to the "Goals For" tie breaker. When Napa played the Slammers team they were very lucky to tie the score. There was a questionable NON-call against Napa with 2 minutes left in the game where their striker (who eventually scored the goal) fouled & knocked down the Slammers defender near the side of the goal but the refs did not make the call. This player went in uncontested and scored the tying goal. During this game, the Slammers also had 4 wide open sitters that were not converted (1 player even dribbled around the goalie) as well as a missed PK.

Slammers also breezed through the competition in Chicago scoring a total of 21 goals for and giving up a lone goal to Solar in the final minutes of the game. Solar (currently ranked #2 in the Nation) did NOT advance to Denver.

In regards to the Discovery and Coast Leagues being better than ECNL... maybe as leagues as a "whole" but the Slammers were the only LOCAL team that advanced to the Final 8 in Denver from local teams:
Strikers South Coast - failed to get to the top 16 knockout round
Strikers FC - lost in the top 16 knockout round
FC Golden State - failed to get to the top 16 knockout round

Southwest ECNL Teams Advancing:
RSL ECNL (Arizona) - advanced to Final 8
Phoenix Rising ECNL (Arizona) - advanced to Final 8

The what if ... coach, calls, PK's, players missing, hurt, hit the post, etc for some tournament are somehow different are always amusing but that's soccer: tiebreaks, PK's, coin toss, single goal either way can and does make the difference sometimes.

Somebody will comment abut the A bracket being too easy, the seeding, or that fact one bracket winner takes a single win and 5 pts to advance while the other 3 wins 9pts.

These travel tournments out of state sound $$$$ so hopefully the players hit some colleges up, tour around a bit and get some culture along the way.

Should be interesting to see teams shape up for 19-20'

What happened to Slammers anyway?

Seemed like they had a different coach & some late joining players, some with taped numbers in the video, didn't look like the team I remembered. Did they combine teams or something? Anyway good for them for making a run.

I heard this team had gone through a real roller coaster ride but things had stabilized and the boys elevated over all of the adversity. There were multiple coaching changes within the season and they lost a couple of players for various reasons. At the end of the day, the boys bought into the new Coaching system. From what I can tell, the few players that were lost were replaced (tape) by players that I recognize from the Slammers Discovery team.

Also worth discussing ...
There was quite an uproar over the PDA 03' team that claimed the National Title as players from their ECNL Conference and others were commenting that they brought half of their DA team to play in the ECNL/NPL Finals & Playoffs. I'm curious how this is possible knowing they can have only 2 players swapping between 2 teams (via player pass)? This could explain the reason they ran the tables in the ENPL Finals.
