ECNL-2 Teams???

What's up with this new team naming convention that ECNL clubs are doing these days?

Example: Pleasanton Rage 07 ECNL-2

Maybe it means minus 2? LOL

But seriously, what is this all about? These teams can't even sniff ECNL teams...how can these clubs get away with putting that in their team names? Have you no self respect?

The marketing of team names is out of control IMHO.
 
It looks like something that a marketing consultant came up with. My guess is that when they rename the team from "Orange" to "Pre-ECNL-2" the parents get to pay $1000 more for all the new prestige! A less cynical view would be that it's easier to tell which team you're playing against. So instead of Orange, Purple, whatever, it's ECNL-2, etc. I dunno?
 
It's certainly marketing. Most 2nd teams in ECNL clubs may use ECRL after team name but certainly ECNL-2 is trying to fool some parents. I've never seen another nor cal ecnl club 2nd team have ecnl in their name. Smart people know what team it is really.
