HS Yellow Card Question

I was watching a HS game this past weekend. An attacker was on a breakaway. The keeper came out. Attacker touches the ball past the keeper and then the keeper trips the attacking player without ever touching the ball. The ref gives the keeper a yellow card and awards a free kick to the attacking team. The keeper was allowed to continue the game. I thought a yellow card in HS soccer meant the player has to leave the game for some period of time. Is there some special rule for keepers? Thanks!

Keeper has to leave game.

The HS rules require a cautioned player to leave the field. The coach can choose to insert a substitute or play short. The cautioned player can return at the next legal substitution opportunity for their team. If playing short the coach has to wait until their next legal substitution opportunity to add a player. I've never had a coach choose to play short.

Is there an easy to read book of laws for high school soccer? Maybe on that just includes differences from fifa.
  • Substitution - totally free or limited? last 5 minutes of a game (new rule).
  • Clock
  • Drob balls
  • Goal kicks leaving the penalty area
  • Yellow Card - how long do you need to leave the field? Can a player be subbed on?
  • Red Card- current game suspension and how many more?
  • Offside- is it the same as what we have now or like it was 3 years ago?
  • Handball- is it the same as what we have now or like it was 3 years ago?
What else are major differences?

NFHS published the rules and you can get them through Amazon (kindle only I think) or Apple Books.

Correct, any player receiving a yellow has to be substituted off. Sounds like DOGSO ... was the contact in the penalty area?
I thought it was DOGSO. It was at the edge of the penalty area. They awarded the free kick just outside the penalty area. The coach of the fouled player talked to the ref and seemed to be asking why the keeper was allowed to stay in. It looked like a misapplication of the laws to me. "The heavy finger of soccer fate*" intervened and right after the free kick the ball bounced around a bit and someone took a shot from just outside the box, the keeper got a hand on it but it went in anyway.

*Paraphrasing something I heard the commentators say during an EPL game in the past couple of weeks. English soccer commentator are much more entertaining than NFL commentators.
