Coaches should get a per-diem at the end of the year. This cost should cover their travel expenses to tourneys, State/National Cup, and away games. Typically we have paid our coach $250 -$350.

Back in the day at our little club coaches were expected to do 3 or 4 tournaments without additional pay and $$$/game beyond that. They also always got expenses (hotel, mileage, per diem) if there was travel out of the area. When my son was coaching one team wanted to do a tournament in Las Vegas so my wife and I shared his hotel room the last night.

IME coaches don't charge to go to tournaments but do get a per diem, meals/mileage/parking and a hotel if out of town. If parents are requesting an extra tournament beyond what the coach/club had planned that might be different. At the various clubs my kids have played with, club expects coaches to do 3-4 tournaments per summer, plus state cup. (This is for flight 2/3, not flight 1 or DA where there is lots of travel.)

I see some coaches play soooo many tournaments over the summer. Like 6-8.
And they are coaching multiple teams.
Which is a lot when summer is only about 10 weeks.
There must be a financial incentive for them to do so many. If you want to play every weekend, it’s easy to arrange friendlies for not much more than the cost of a referee.
It’s not an easy way to make a buck. I’d wager you could probably drive for Uber or Doordash on a weekend and earn more per hour than what a coach makes.

Wow I was just as asking question, if you have 3 team and ask $10 per play for the weekend and I guess the coach makes about $450 x 4 tournaments = $1,800 @timbuck

if anyone is collecting this its disgracefully high.

per-diem should cover a coach expenses (gas, lunch and hotel if over 100 miles away). But for a drivable tournament it should be nowhere near $10 a player and if they have multiple teams they should split it to thirds between the teams (or at least half it) not have a full per-diem x3.

Just watch out for the guy who has 2 teams in the same tournament and tries to double dip on the per diem. One club we used to be with had a whole section in the club agreement on travel and per diems, including no double dipping because coaches abused it. If they have 2 teams then the teams each paid half.
