Cerritos Memorial

What do these tournaments really mean? Other than a fun weekend of soccer? I mean, are the teams that are showing up to play Legends the same teams that are going to be playing Cerritos? One of our best players guested with the Blues this weekend, and I'm pretty sure she wasn't the only one guesting on that team, or "guesting" for other teams.

I was referring to these tournaments more from a practical point of view, rather than a philosophical one. My questions had more to do with what some teams try to strive for, when it's mostly "guest" players participating under their Big Club Names. How can you really measure the success of your team if you are not really teaching your own players the basics.
As far a CRL, that's probably a more "pure" version of where the top teams really stand, and how they stack up against one another; since from I gather, there are no "guest" players allowed.
And yes, Cerritos is a great local tournament, and hopefully it brings another medal for our teams.

Galaxy didn’t have any guest players at the Legends tournament. Blues had one of the best players from Empire playing with them. Not sure if they picked her up or she was just guesting but she is a great player.

No, she was just guesting. She is indeed one of the best players, and Blues is not the only club after her,

She was wearing #5 and was the BUZZ that weekend for sure. 1 out of the 18 selected to ODP, she is hands down one of the best players for her age, smart, skilled and talented. I heard the same thing that she is with Blues and many top ranked clubs have been recruiting her over the years. Tip your hat to Blues if the rumors are true. Can you confirm SoccerSway is she playing with Blues at Man City?

Can't confirm or deny, since she's not my DD. All I know is OUR team is playing Cerritos Memorial this weekend, so I would like to believe she won't be spotted playing Man City.

Teams are always challenged when that top player moves on but either way Empire is a strong team that plays great soccer. Good luck to you guys at Cerritos Cup!

Why can't players that "guest" play be out to do it for the experience??? There are so many positive experiences that come out of guesting for 10/11 year olds!!! Maybe it isn't about "greener pastures" for some. It gives them the opportunity to develop and become a well rounded player. They may be put in a different position then they normally play on their club. They get to meet different girls and coaches and adjust their style of play to different players and coaching styles. Not all parents are blinded by the glitter of a "big" club. Some are, but most know it's a business. In my opinion just because you guest play doesn't always mean their looking for "bigger and better". I am sure these big clubs want the best of the best players to guest, just like one person said, you need someone that will add to the team and make a difference and help them win. Winning attracts players to their teams for the future. It really is a smart business move.
Now I ask the question, about your comment about taking time away from the "paying customers". May I ask if this was a scrimmage your speaking of or a tournament. From what I have seen, typically a team will bring players to tournaments, due to numbers issues, and with a potential of having four, five or even six games, fresh feet are better than tired feet.
Just my opinion on guest playing, not saying its right or wrong, but just what I think its all about

You can make the argument for or against, depending on what side of the field your kid is on. If you are the "guest" player, of course it's a great experience at zero cost. If you are the kid sitting on the bench (paying for this tournament) because coaches want to "win" and "bring in new business to their club", not so much.
And isn't the job of the coach to develop their own players so they can be prepared to play ANY position? I shouldn't expect to "guest" for other teams/coaches in order to "try out new positions".
At this point, we are just beating a dead horse, so I'm going to drop it.

So why is Empire favored to win???? I’m confused with this post!!!

What's so confusing about it?
Those are my predictions based on the caliber of the teams, and the way the brackets were drawn.
You are welcome to come up with a different outcome for each bracket, but I think I'm pretty close to accurate.

Nothing unusual happened. There were many strong teams in the tournament. My Boca Jrs. team played the Empire team in the semi-finals, and Empire won 2-1. Slammers Macias won the other semi-final, which I did not see. Empire beat the Slammers Macias squad, but again, I did not see the game. All of the games my team played in were hard-fought contests against quality teams.

If I have any complaint, it would be that the fields were too small for teams at this age, size and level and athleticism. Keeper punts too often went to the opposing keeper. Balls too often went out of bounds.
Well congrats on getting to the semi’s and playing well! To go along with your comment about the field size, we had the same issue at Manchester Cup. The keepers weren’t allowed to drop kick the ball past mid field or do headers. I felt it held us back and wasn’t allowing us to capitalize on those skills

Congratulations Empire on the Championship win at Cerritos Memorial! SoccerSway, #6 was spotted at Cerritos Memorial with Empire heard she had clutch goals to advance the team and a clutch goal to win the Championship. That’s great for Empire and bad for Blues! I’m sure the team was very happy aka parents and coaches to see this one show up!
