It's Godinez to lose. Who can make the run to upset them? Maybe Oxnard, Valley United Delgado? Can SDSC Navy take another shot? Milan Red?

Oxnard previously lost 1-0 to Godinez in the CRL in what I heard was a very close game, so I wouldn't rule them out to make a challenge for it.

That's usually the kiss of death, can't really recall a pre tournament favorite taking home national or state cup in this age group. Every year seems to have a team that catch's fire and Albion gets to be runner up or something.

Besides Oxnard haven't seen any of the mentioned teams play, the have a shot as would the tfa teams who also seem to do well in these tournments.

What about the other Slammer's teams? That LAGSD elite team could make a run.

In the League Cup semis and finals last weekend, Oxnard beat GalaxySD Elite 3-0. In the finals/Championship, they beat Valley United 4-1.

We all know gotsoccer.com rankings blow because they only include matches that are saved into their system. http://youthsoccerrankings.us/ does a much better job, especially with all the non-DA teams. So without further ado here's the current rankings for all 2003 BU14 teams who have entered National Cup.

May update this before the tournament starts and after CRL and the January/February tournaments - or perhaps someone else will.

There's no argument who the top two teams are IMO. But it'll be interesting to see the upsets and a dark horse or two make a run. Or who added a stud or two once the Fall seasons finished.

Not really sure who they picked the R2 teams, seems like if your teams is in CRL they put you into round 2 or something?

Sure looks like it's a CRL placement. No Valley United??

Toughest brackets round 1-
C- 3 Europa and an a very good Milan Red team- All quality teams
F- Colton, PATS LA and TFA MCarthur
H-Rangers, Downey and Irvine Strikers

Great rematch- Strikers SB vs. Vargas

Yeah, I'm pretty surprised that Valley United isn't in R2 as well. That could work out to their advantage since they'll already be tuned up if/when they enter R2.

Looking at the math, 20 teams (top 2 from each group or just top 20 teams overall in R1) move on to R2 to bring to 32 (8 groups of 4). Definitely some great R1 games in there.

Strikers always a force, this Downey team has been rising from no where. Seen them play once, pretty solid team all around imo

Where do you get quality from?

Slammers perhaps, but you're confusing size with good players.

Pateadores L.A. is my dark horse. Saw them at Surf Cup where they lost in the final but were missing their star center forward who got injured in the group stages. He's top notch and with him back I can see them going far.

There are several highly skilled players on the Slammers team. They are one of the bigger athletic teams out there but they have some amazing skill as well. they pass the ball around we'll, play out from the back and finish. What they have that only a few teams have is a complete team with quality depth and can adapt for a final.
