Orange Glen HS won Section playoffs after the interview. Sergio transfered from Nomads to Poway Vaqueros for 2007 Cal South National Cup. After Vaqueros lost in semi-final round to eventual champion DMS11, he was offered a full scholarship to Creighton University in Omaha, on the field, after the game. There he was a 4-year starter on defense, and played in the summer for the Vaqueros in the USL Super-20 Division. He was drafted by MLS in 2011, but got no playing time and returned to San Diego County where he has worked as a coach for Vaqueros boys teams.
Sergio's parents were undocumented immigrants who brought him with him as a child, so he was granted DACA status. Yesterday he was sworn in as a US citizen.
