Tournament ref fees low?

SILVER ELITE
Do any of the referees in the community feel as though the compensation we get for tournaments feel low? The CalSouth rate is a joke for referees doing 60 minute games and driving 60 miles for a tournament. Any thoughts?

I'm trying to find alternatives for the off season but nothing comes up really.

During season its a sweet pay day but I feel disheartened by what they offer to us for the hours we put in and the sweat on our backs.

The pay I have been getting for summer tournament games is not bad. I work for multiple associations and each pays slightly different amounts. I made $40 as a Center and $25 as an AR for 60 minute games this past weekend for a total of $170 for about 5 hours of work. That is $35 an hour which is not bad for a part-time side job that I enjoy. If it was Fall League play I would have probably made $200. A couple weeks ago I worked a set of six 7v7 games and made $264 ($44 an hour) which in the fall pay around $53 a game. The only complaint is when I have to referee at the Oceanside complex which is a 45-50 minute drive, but my car gets great gas mileage and I am usually driving and talking with my daughter. I only work OC or LA County tournaments when visiting family in those areas.

I would suggest you join multiple referee associations and be selective about the tournaments that you make yourself available to work.

holy crap! they pay you to do these games? i was wondering what those envelopes were.

actually..... all of them pay us, except it seems pegasus....

and don't tell them, but i'd do it for free. i have so much fun.

That $$ still hasn't come through (again)? Why do they keep assigning this?

We still have not been paid for the Pegasus Cup olders after SDSC's first check bounced. It was bad enough that the schedules got changed last minute, but this pay problem is total bulls*%t. If SDSC cannot budget a tournament properly, then how do they budget their club. Complete BS that they cannot pay the refs. I am sure the San Diego Soccer Club DOC's have been paid for the month of June. We, referees, should demand an extra $50 for the bounced check fee and late fees. Next year the referee association should demand cash in advance and pay the referees cash on the field.

The referee associations should boycott SDSC games until they are paid. I would imagine it would take about 1 day to get a check delivered once they find out they cannot play any games.

Surfref, I have no problem with $35 an hour!!! What I've been getting past few tournaments has been abysmal..we've been getting $26 a game regardless center or AR at norco tournaments...Calsouth sanctioned and all. I dont know if the association im working with is witholding or if its because their getting games from a diff association, and their allocating to them.

But the numbers I was crunching it seemed like theres $90 per 60 minute game for your games. 26*3 is 78...so were getting 12 short per game...hmmmm.

And yea I agree on the cash bit. With cash we can make sure were not getting short changed and on top of that, we can make sure that we get paid on time. A check worth a 100 bucks that you have to wait for a month is tasteless and inconvenient.

As for regular season I make roughly that depending on schedule availability. Thnx for the feedback!

What do they offer for tournaments vs league play?
Tournament and league play is not really a difference, although there might be and Im not sure of, my assignors say its a minute pay per minute scale. Which isnt that great. League season you can expect for 4 games to make 170+ on one day. With minimal travel too. Easier days in fact because your doing these games back to back and you get proper breaks.

U11 and below are the best especially 1 man/iron man ;)

Sounds like someone is screwing over the referees. CalSouth sanctioned does not mean that they control the referee fees. The referee associations work out a fee schedule with the tournaments. Check your referee associations website for a fee schedule or ask the assigner. They should have a fee table posted. The two associations I work for in San Diego are open about it and do not hide the fee schedule. The last time I worked at Silverlakes was for SGVSRA and the pay was appropriate.

This wouldnt be the first time I get screwed over by someone greedy, I know an adult league referee assignor that I'm gonna take care of pretty soon, via IRS:mad:.

Its shameful really when they do that.
