Vegas Cup

SILVER ELITE
Just curious who is heading to the desert next month to play in the Vegas Cup.

Blues is a solid team. The Arsenal and Blues games was 5 to 3 but Blues were up early with 3 for Blues scoring 3 in the first half. Vegas Heat hung in there it was only 1 to 0 at half with both teams having chances and playing well. Blues scored on a long shot of a cleared corner. Second half was even with the Vegas giving up a goal on a long punt..

Correction on the Arsenal Heat game coming. 1-0. Arsenal. Good game!!!! Should be a Simi Fanal game.

Anyone know of the final was 5-4 final, go to OT or PK's? Must have been a great final!

It was a fantastic final!!! Carlsbad (LA Galaxy SD) came out strong and put two up early in the first half. Caught our girls sleeping. But Blues rallied and put one in before the half. Second half was a different game. Definitely much more even with both teams fighting tooth and nail.

In the last minute, Blues tied it up off a throw in that made it's way into the box. And from there.....PK's. Lots of misses from both teams, but a fantastic save by the LAGSD keeper to seal the deal.

Overall, a great game for little U9's. PK's are always a crap shoot and I'd have rather the game be played out in at least 2 10 minute half overtimes, but all in all, two respectable teams with great coaches and awesome little girls that worked so hard and never gave up, all while playing a disciplined style of soccer.

Good update! A win or loss in PK's is the worst way to settle a game like that!!!

I disagree with PK's being the worst way to settle games. I do agree about perhaps a little more time to extend the potential for a goal(but not in tournaments). But PK's are not going anywhere in terms of the laws and rules of the game. The more chances our girls get to learn to deal with those scenarios during these developmental years, the more they will be able to draw on them during the crucial years. PK's are so hard to replicate during training. I played in the over 40 King cup this weekend and both our semi final game and final game were decided by PK's. Always tough to lose, but it sure is a fun way to win as well.
I got to watch most the games and once again super impressed with the level and quality of the play of several teams. Loved watching the LAGSD girls play. They moved so quickly into all phases of the game(good coaching), and were super athletic in every position. I wish I could have seen the final but I was busy losing my final in PK's!

Spoken like a true soccer player!!!! Coming from Football, basketball, volleyball, golf background things are always settled on the field!!!! You don't have a Free Throw Contest or putting contest to decide a winner but I understand the nature of soccer is different because these games could go on forever!!!

Just curious... did that player on LAGSD player play back down with them from the 07 team? I forget what number she was... she was awesome!

LAGSD '08 does not have a player that has played "up" this year, I think you are thinking of #3 on the Blues, and yes she played in Vegas.

#3 is not playing down or a guest. She is on the team and is in age group. We have a roster of 8 and although she was needed at '07, she will be moving to her own age group and thankfully giving us some full time help. And yes, she is amazing, not just as a player, but as a child and friend. She has practiced with the '08 team for the last 6 months and is very much a part of the team dynamic.
