2003 DA - What will be the effect of 03/02 teams next year?

NumberTen

SILVER ELITE
What will the 2003 DA teams do next year when they are on a combined 02/03 team? Less of each age will make the team, probably more 02's will make the cut. Will the 03'2 go down to the flt 1 team?

Yes, normally it will be like that. Majority of 03s will be kept together on Flight 1 team, allowed to play a year of HS and come back next year to DA

yes, some will not like it and some will just go with the flow. Best 03s will be kept in DA with 02s and this will already create separation
between players.

Your mileage will vary but like want happen with the 02's this past season will be mixed bag:
Some teams will break up, others will stay together; join other leagues; CSL Premier, DSL Discovery, ECNL, or whatever the favor is for 18-19'

About 25% or less of the younger in a combined age group have historically remained in DA playing with the composite U16/17 team next season but that maybe higher this time.

Going to be a reshuffle of the teams that's for sure and could be a bit of movement among teams, players, and some new ones might be forming. I heard LAFC is looking at the possibility of forming some teams outside of the DA circuit playing is some other leagues such as the new super G.

One thing for sure is youth soccer is a every involving landscape and every season is different so enjoy the ride.

Where is info on new Super G league?

Typo the USL Super Y league Socal Expansion is what I was referring to, the NBA G league must have been on mind since we just went to game recently .

Orange County Soccer Club https://www.orangecountysoccer.com/ I know for sure is interested, LAFC had some talks, as well as LAUFA I heard so will be interesting if there are more affiliations or support for a div II/III type league for young adults / high school youth in SoCal

More like the 03 players who can make an impact right now will be kept with the 02 DA players. Not good if you're a late bloomer, or going through an awkward growth spurt, no matter your potential. Not difficult to see why the pseudo-academy model continues to be a sham.

There were rumors in the past that USSDA would split the U16/U17 year group into single year. Not happening in 2018-2019. Can’t see why there should be any legitimate resistance to it. Hope they eventually do it.

Another league? We can't create players, and we want to create another league? C'mon, stop doing small business and think bigger, wider.

I doubt USSDA will ever get rid of this model - it is somewhat good at weeding out soccer talent.

Well DA decided to keep u16/17 combined for 19-20' so will be 03/04's. For the 03s already in that league some are looking at playing up in u18 instead of repeating the combined age group again.

There could be a big shakeup this coming season with both player and whole team movement.

2-3 new leagues: Nplwest, Upsl academy, and USL academy. Boys ECNL expanding by a couple of teams. Put all that together and the potential is there for a big shake up.

Some of the outside or newer pro afflicated clubs looking to get into the socal market have been in contact with various clubs and teams about them coming over to be their xyx academy team in xyz league so I won't be surprised to see some existing club afflicated teams switching for better deals, pro afflications, etc.

Likely DSL & CSL will both be losing top flight teams maybe more so In SCDSL. DA is going to take a hit also as some leave to play High School, calendar year groups, other newer leagues.

So who has the scoop or rumors which teams or players are moving around? Once the cup and spring comps complete?

The big shake-up will happen if MLS DAs decide to pull away from independent DAs. I know they are considering it, but the execution seems challenging, namely how to play a full schedule without insane levels of travel.

Perhaps MLS DAs pull out at the older ages only (of first). Perhaps U16, U17, U18 where there becomes a more serious pro career focus rather than simply improving the resume for a college scholarship. In that case travel might be more justified.

Even if it happens, won't be until 2020/20201.

I don't see boys ECNL having a big impact on the Socal market - Not enough high quality teams to compete with CSL Premier.

Socal additions don't change that dynamic.

Perhaps the few remaining high-quality DSL (Discovery League) teams are potential targets for Boys ECNL?

USL/UPSL/NPL are all interesting emerging leagues/partners but will likely impact over the medium term not short term.

Someone mentioned in some other thread that CRL may be expanding... Any idea what that may be? Last year they expanded to 16 teams but kept pretty much the same schedule.

Additional teams in CRL is what I heard about that expansion.

From messages I received about this movement topic:

Top (2) DSL Discovery teams not returning and will be playing or reforming in different leagues. 3rd team will be in Discovery from Strikers. Arsenal's second team in Discovery along with Pat's teams of some sorts. LAGalaxy SD may not have a Discovery team since players moving to DA.

2-3 CSL premier teams such as Valley United, DMS now CAL FC switching over to UPSL Academy. Golden ST moving to Boys ECNL.

LA Breakers 03 (were scheduled to go to Discovery next season) and 04 (were already in Discovery) are both going to ECNL next season.

ECNL Competition is still behind the two standard leagues BUT they are getting college coaches there because of the girl's side reputation. If I'm a boys coach I watch Discovery and Premier. Not even close. Now if ECNL has a GPA requirement then they have something but they don't.

That's the issue with the boy's side. I was chatting with a coach from a top team last weekend that has two of the best players in the age and he told me one has grades- the other not even close. So many good players but so few with the grades to play college ball.

The kids a baller but will need to go the JC route or Mexican minor leagues to have any chance.

Yeah that's the way it goes nowadays, coaches are looking almost equal at grades, citizenship, character and soccer ability. With so many players to choose from many will go with the higher gpa/sat score prospect over other ones when soccer ability is similar.

Admission is much difficult for students athletes without at least a avg gpa/sat for those schools say a 3.7gpa+ /1250 SAT. Not many coaches will go the special permit route anymore with the recent sandals to recuit great players who are academically otherwise not up to that schools standards.

I know 1st hand that universities have met recently and are considering removing ALL special permit routes for athletes. They are also adding layers of checks and balances to ensure that multiple faculty members are looking at recruits in areas that in the past have had their own pathways to admission. Speaking with a CSU faculty member yesterday, that had been the sole person in charge of athletic special permits stated: " the times are changing and you better do well in school if you want to play soccer on their campuses". CSU soccer has been one of the easier colleges to gain acceptance too. Some top athletes could gain admission with as little as a 2.0. While nothing is in stone the person said that there is a strong push to not have any special treatment.
