Very Talented Group of 09 Girls

Tonysci

BRONZE
This is a very talented group of 09 Girls throughout SoCal... Looking Forward to a great season...

Define talent? You people come here and throw that word around like you know wth you're talking about.

The problem is that I have to scroll down through all your meaningless posts to find something semi worthwhile reading.

Marta - Brazil Now that's talent.

If your estimating "talent" at 8 and 9 years of age, it is the parent that has the problem. Let them play! Let them have fun. Too soon they will be in a competitive, stressful environment (around U15 and up) when people start talking about real "talent". At U9, there isn't talent. It's size and speed over everything. Make it fun so they will love the game as much as you enjoy watching them.

Um...really? No talent? All size and speed? So slammers is doing well only because they are bigger and faster than everyone else? I've seen plenty of talent at this age group and have accurately pegged players who, when they've reached U15, were considered at the top of their game by their respective national teams (US, Mexico, Chile). Just watched several from SoCal just start recently for the US GU15 team. I think a closer look might be needed.

Your message is the very reason I posted. Girls on the USWNT account for .0001% of the girls playing. I certainly can tell you at the U9 level, you didn't see one of these unicorns because they are indeed rare. It's unfortunate that parents believe that unicorns are everywhere but they simply are not. My point is, stop looking for "talent" at this age and let them just grow to love the game. As for the Slammers, my comment had nothing to do with any club affiliation, so you can stay away from the personal jabs.

I believe the point is: be cautiously enthusiastic that at age 9 you are seeing some good soccer being played...Applaud the effort and intensity these young ones put into the game.

BUT....keep it in perspective. Wins are not everything (although they do help), mistakes are part of the process and always let them know your proud of them.

I believe the OP had the intent of simply acknowledging the talented young ladies in this age group. Nothing more or less. Don’t let the trolls skew the intention.

Can't we all just get along!!! ;-) My original post was in just having fun.. and That I was looking forward to a fun season.... These young girls are having a blast , At least our team is and most of the teams we have been playing have been having fun. The memories these girls are having spending time together, traveling are going to be life long memories, and I am hoping they are all great and very fond memories. My comment was just to say how impressed I was in watching these 8 & 9 year old girls play. We have played The Eagles, Slammers ,Blues and so on and Yes, I feel they are very Talented group of girls in So Cal, and yes there is a possibility some may move on to become great soccer players and some may just play to have fun....

Seriously people, take it easy. Tonysci was making a generic positive "good luck" gesture before start of the fall season.

Tonysci, ignore the haters...they don't get that we just enjoy watching quality teams and players in our age group. :)
