Default Rancho Capistrano Closing

What does this mean for the Blues? For UFC? For State Cup, National Cup, FWRL, League Cup, and on and on?

http://www.ranchocapistrano.org/

On January 29, 2010, Crystal Cathedral Ministries (CCM) announced a decision made by their International Board of Trustees to close down operations at the ministry’s San Juan Capistrano location. The Rancho Capistrano site (The Ranch) has provided years of spiritual outreach through retreats and renewals, weddings and religious gatherings.

Regrettably, the current economic climate and the rising costs of supporting The Ranch operations led the Board to this final decision. An exact date for the closing is pending, but is projected to be effective the third week of March, 2010. Weddings currently booked at the Ranch will continue through the end of the year, but all other events and activities will discontinue in late March.

CCM has been actively seeking a buyer for the 20-acre Retreat Center located on the property. The remaining 150 acres are currently in escrow to be sold to Continuing Life Communities with an option to the city of San Juan Capistrano for 115 of those acres. Efforts to sell the property will continue, allowing CCM to move forward with a more focused approach with its world-recognized, positive ministry.

Wow that is crazy!!
Maybe a group of clubs and investors could buy the property and put in a full size soccer stadium.

Yes, UFC and the Blues will continue to utilize the Ranch fields even if the operations are closed. We have been in discussion with the new prospective owners and the City of SJC and feel confident we will be able to manage them along with the Blues until and after construction begins on the Assisted Living Center. Even after construction begins and it's completed we will still have approximately 4-5 fields for soccer use as per the city requirements for the sale.

On another note, the City of SJC just purchased the Oaks/Polo Fields in SJC and expect to take full control in the next 2 years and will leave it as a recreational/sports facility for soccer and equestrian event. There will be no commercial and/or housing approved for that land.

Here's the letter sent to the UFC and So Cal Blues families last week:

January 30, 2010

Fellow Club Members:

The purpose of this communication is to provide you with a clear understanding of the current status of our field use at Rancho Capistrano.

Recently the Crystal Cathedral Ministries, the owner of Rancho Capistrano, announced in a press release that they were closing many of their operations and facilities including Rancho Capistrano.

The United Futbol Club Board of Directors and So Cal Blues have worked together and have maintained constant communication with the Crystal Cathedral Ministries over the last several years and we have been expecting this announcement for some time. Because of our close communications we are confident that the soccer fields will remain open for our use. In the unlikely event that the fields are closed sometime in the future, our Club has a contingency plan for other field use in the City of San Juan Capistrano and/or surrounding communities.

You will likely hear rumors throughout the soccer community about this situation but rest assured that our Club is not going anywhere soon. Our expectation is that we will continue to play and practice at the Ranch for many years to come.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Very hard to see an assisted living center and soccer co-exist with all the traffic, kids, and noise. Continuing Life Communities builds huge resort like communities. Tournaments? Forget about it.
