KeeperKeeper 02-19-2007, 06:44 PM First round predictions are usually pretty easy. ;-) Let's see how psychic you are in later competition.
Predictions are bad luck. Anyone could beat another team with the right set of circumstances.
That being said, in girls Div. 1, I like Escondido and LCC.

That's the idea of this thread... let's keep it going until the end of the playoffs... and let's hear more prognosticators!! smile1
soccermoms2 02-20-2007, 07:55 AM My faith is in Torrey Pines (boys) going far, if not (cross my fingers!) winning it all. They roster many impact players from Surf and strong coaching. Great combination for a legitimate run at the championship. Plus, they have the experience of having won it before only a couple of years ago.
cheekymonkey 02-20-2007, 07:17 PM Curious to know how many kids from Surf are on the roster? I had heard it was pretty heavy with Sharks players since AH knows them all. I have also observed very strong goalkeeping on both JV & V. All in all, pretty well rounded teams.
Schweinsteiger 02-22-2007, 09:42 AM I was surprised at the RBV V Escondido game. A friends Daughter plays for Escondido and to be honest they never really got going or looked like they were going to threaten.

I'm impressed. I would not have predicted the outcome of the SF Christian v. Christian game. You ARE quite the prognosticator.

For the Girls....I agree, except I think Poway will take Granite Hills....gotta rep the Palomar League.
Also, Horizon vs. Parker is tough to call...Horizon could upset here.

A few questionable calls, but overall the refs let the girls play. Helix played hard all the way to the end. Enjoyed watching!

Good luck in the finals TP!!

Tell the Poway forward to let the ball roll in the goal instead of kicking it in while standing on the goal line behind everyone.
The referee was very inconsistent. Called everything involving hands but let hard shots to the body go without a call. I will try to do better in the future.

The Poway goal was not scored by the forward, nor was it about to roll into the goal. The player was offside, however.

My dd had a tough time last night. She took the loss personally, as I am sure many kids on the team did. She scored the goal for Poway when she left her sweeper position for the corner kick. The goal was offside and she took alot of criticism for that. Then the coach blamed the loss, not on the inability to score, but on the inability of the defense to clear the ball. It was a great season. Granite Hills is a good team that Poway has not played in the 3 years we have been there.

Granite Hills brings Titans back to earth
By: MATT NULL - Staff Writer
POWAY ---- Coming off an emotional double-overtime victory last week over La Costa Canyon, the Poway High girls soccer team was on cloud nine.
One more victory over Granite Hills in the CIF Division I semifinals on Wednesday night, and the Titans would be making their first finals appearance since 2003.
But the Eagles had other plans, as they beat the Titans 1-0 on a Tayrn Francel goal with 22 minutes remaining in the game.
"Emotionally, everyone was prepared and ready to go," Titans coach Jen Lalor-Nielsen said. "I thought our luck would carry over from the La Costa Canyon win. I really felt we put a good product on the field, but bottom line is we didn't get it done."
Third-seeded Granite Hills (17-1-2) will face top-seeded Torrey Pines, a 2-0 winner over Bonita Vista, in Saturday's Division I championship game at 2 p.m. at Mt. Carmel. Poway finished with a 16-3-6 record.
The lone goal by Francel was scored while in traffic inside the Poway goalie box.
"I always tell my team the game is won or lost in the box," Lalor-Nielsen said. "It went against us because we didn't clear the ball out when we needed it."
For Granite Hills coach Gil Vejar, the victory meant redemption, and a fourth straight appearance in the finals.
"The East County gets slighted a lot of the time because the North County is bigger and stronger. Poway is a great team and I would do anything to play in their league," said Vejar, who added that he tried to schedule Poway this season but was unable to do so. "We have to earn everything we get. Finally we got to face them and we put them away."
Both Lalor-Nielsen and Vejar said they expected the game to be close.
"I knew it was going to be a battle," Vejar said. "It will be a battle on Saturday as well."Ý
The Eagles will face a Torrey Pines team that beat them 3-1 on Dec. 2. Granite Hills has not lost since that match, and Vejar said his team has come a long way.
Torrey Pines has beaten the Eagles four times in a row since Granite Hills defeated the Falcons in the 2005 Division I championship game.

There were some very dangerous scrambles in the box that poor clearances did lead to chances. I think this is what JL-N was referring to. At the time it seemed like the entire Titan team was in the box...which may have lead to some of the difficulty.
It was a good game. Could have gone either way. I thought LCC looked more dangerous than either of these teams, but it will be GH who will probably be fodder for TP on Saturday.

Juan Cabrillo 03-01-2007, 01:52 PM I thought LCC looked more dangerous than either of these teams, but it will be GH who will probably be fodder for TP on Saturday.During league play, LCC was not as dangerous as the other teams in the Palomar League this season (except for Mt. Carmel). However, it appears that they stepped up their play and "peaked" at the right time, based on their results during the CIF playoffs. I would agree that Torrey Pines is favored to win, but I wouldn't refer to GH as "fodder". I think TP will win the championship, but I wouldn't be that surprised if Granite Hills pulls off the win...they have been waiting all year for the chance to avenge their loss to TP at the Barons Tourney. I predict a close game.
For the Girls, all the #1 seeds made the finals along with (2) #2's and (2) #3's. It should make for some close, exciting games to watch.
Salt, your dd and her team had a great season...no shame in losing to GH, after all, they've been in the CIF finals the past 4 consecutive years. I'm sure that game could have gone either way.

I'm looking forward to the GH-TP game. Yes, they are not "fodder" per se....just don't think they can beat TP...I think a 2-0, 3-1 game is not out of the question.
Who wins the Div II crown Juan? Does Westview stop the streak?

If I had to bet, I would go with Torrey Pines as well, but I see it as a 1 goal difference in regulation or an OT win. I wouldn't be surprised with a tie either....I don't beleive that CIF rules allow for PK’s to decide.
As for D2, I’m not so sure that 1 year makes it a streak, Westview was CIF champs in 2005. Bad karma to pick this one….16 wins in a row including a win over Poway for San Pasqual, they are tough.
Wish both games were at the same venue.

Juan Cabrillo 03-03-2007, 03:51 PM Westview 1, San Pasqual 1....the teams are CIF Co-Champions.
Hard fought, physical game. Westview scored 1st in the 58th minute, San Pasqual got the equalizer with about 7 minutes left in the game, then 2 scoreless overtime periods. Westview had more scoring opportunities in the game and in OT.
Congrats to both teams!!

Otay Ranch blew away Granite Hills with a 5-1 win and an impressive performance by their #11.
GIRLS
WHAT A GAME!!
Could not have been played better, given the condition.
The Referee was TOTALLY overmatched and failed miserably to keep the players safe and the game under control.
Granite takes an early 2-0 lead, TP makes 2-1 on a PK and scores the equalizer right before the half.
In the second half TP has the wind at their back, there are tons of crosses that don't come to fruition until with about 3 minutes to go TP scores the 3-2.
GHHS comes back with pride and earns a free kick from 20-25 yards out, Sandoval takes it against a wind and shoots a rocket that hits the crossbar.. her teammates are quick on the rebound and tie the game with basically no time left.
After maybe only 7-8 minutes of OT, Granite Hills hits the post and on the counterattack Torrey Pines scores. 4-2 TP, game over.
It must have been no more than 6-7 seconds between the crack of the ball on the post and the ball in the back of the net on the other side.
Dramatic and pretty emotional, especially for the Granite Hills Seniors.
