Fox sports reported that Brian McBride has retired from the USMNT. At first I thought he was one dimensional player, strong in the air, but not much else. Eventually I came to realize he was really a complete player, a solid target player that can hold the ball, a good defender, and a quality finisher. It was really fun to watch him improve as a player from his Crew days to Fulham. He is very respected in the EPL, by teammates, foes and fans alike.

Together with Eric Wynalda, I think they are the two best strikers in US brief history.

Wonder who from the current group can fill his shoes.

Definitely a loss. We don't have anyone who has the soccer intelligence to play the target striker nearly as well. His performances in the World Cup were heroic at times. He stepped it up when Donovan was a laggard and did his best even though he received little to no service.

I am excited to see our MNT play a faster/up tempo game style with players like Eddie Johnson as our forward. Don't get me wrong, I love watching Brian McBride play, but Eddie Johnson is the future of the USMNT forward position.

I like Eddie alot. I sure don't know what the future of american soccer is. What did you see to reflect a faster uptempo style by the USMNT? I hope you are right though.

What I saw to reflect a faster uptempo style of play is simple, Claudio Reyna has retired!! He slowed down the game for us. Players like Eddie Johnson, Clint Dempsey, & Bobby Convey will create a faster style of play just with them replacing players like McBride, Beasley(who stunk at the WC) & Lewis
