watched a show on GOL TV last night on Clint Dempsey, topic: will he make the World Cup Team? Saw him play on opening day vs Galaxy -- was a much more effective threat than Twellman -- big, fast, and has a goal scorers attitude -- (scored the game winner in fact). Galaxy defenders had their hands full all night with him, Twellman was crying to the referee all night as usual while Dempsey was creating opportunities. All of which could prove useful against potentially overwhelming international competition. Thoughts?

A year ago, Dempsey was nowhere near National Team material, but he has improved significantly. Still, he is too green to start in the World Cup. He seems to have a pretty good work rate but his skills are not yet up to international standards. Where would he play? He is an attacking midfielder in MLS, but he is not ready to play a similar position on the US squad. He is probably a better sub than Twellman or many others so he should probably make the squad. He may be valuable if some of the better players run out of gas. In the grand scheme, he could be a big part of the future, and Arena should probably make an investment in Dempsey now and select him.

he has progressed nicely in the past year for sure. he could provide some scoring punch by mixing things up. He is a great finisher and team could use a little help in that department. McBride will be solid but perhaps Dempsey paired with a playmaker like Landon Donovan would be interesting. Donovan creates as many opportunities as he receives. I'm leary of the team's chances but I wouldn't miss it for the world.
