It's sad how Graham Poll was villified by so many in the media after this call. It was an extremely important decision because it kept Portsmouth out of next year's UEFA Cup. Plenty of journalists, the match commentators (I know, they're always wrong), Redknapp, and probably every Pompey fan in the world are claiming Graham Poll has robbed them of millions by disallowing the goal.

Graham Poll and his assistant got it right.

I heard something about this...I guess I'll wait to catch the replay on Fox Soccer Channel this week.

Just looked up the video at youtube and Krancjar was in an offside position. It seems the only confusing point among the people posting comments at youtube is that they don't, or refuse to, understand that the offside decision is made is when the ball be 'played' or 'touched' by a team mate, but the fact that a defender 'touched' the ball on it's way to the offside player does not negate offside. The referee must have decided that the contact by the defender did not constitute 'playing' the ball.

Simply put, with respect to offside decisions, the initial movement of the ball toward an offside player by a team mate can be 'played' or merely 'touched', while a defender must 'play' the ball. 'Playing the ball' should be thought of as including some level of control, while 'touching' the ball does not.
